I was working in Weehawken ,NJ, right on the water, at the time i was a dockworker, my co worker (mike) and I were drilling steel to reinforce a ramp and heard the first plane right across the river, everything stopped, he knew what it was i didn’t want to believe it as we watched the tower, we could smell the burning fuel, and then the 2nd. plane, we were frozen. we turned the radio on and heard everything that was happening around the country, we were still , couldn’t believe it, we were scrambling to get our things together to go home to our family, but still watching as the towers went down. Mike went to the ambulance corp. (he’s a volunteer) to try and get into the city to help. All I wanted to do was to get home to my son who was home sick from school, a 15min. ride took me over 2hours, highways were shut down, had to take all the back roads the rest of the day i sat and listened to the radio (we had to tv service for a couple hours). I cried, i cried for all the people who were lost and out of fear, that was the only day in life I didn’t feel safe. God bless those who were lost, their families and everyone in the recovery effort.
