I was in 4th grade when 9/11 happened. I was about to turn 10 in less than 2 weeks. I don’t ever recall the teachers mentioning anything about the terrorists attacks that day. Maybe they thought we were too young to understand. It was pretty much a normal day for me until I got home. The news was on like it always was when I got home from school. I remember watching a clip of a building fall and then another one. (At that time I didn’t know it was called the World Trade Center). I was in such shock because I have never seen anything like that ever broadcast on live television like that. All I could ask was what happened, but no one could really answer me because all the events were still unfolding and all of America was trying to figure out the same thing. It wasn’t until years later though that I really understood the magnitude and the impact of Sept. 11 thanks to documentaries and movies and news clips that have shown in various cable channels every year since the attacks. It answered so many questions about this event that my 4th grade mind at the time couldn’t comprehend. It’s definitely one of those events where the world stood still and you have no choice but to remember where you were.
