On September 11th, 2001 I was in my 7th grade reading class. I remember reading my book, when someone ran in and told our teacher that the WTC were hit by a plane. I remember she turned on the tv and we all watched the footage of the planes and the towers. I hadn’t ever even heard of the WTC. Every one was confused and asking questions and she turned off the tv and told us all to go back to reading. Out of ignorence I assumed that it was an accedent and the fact that our teacher just pushed such a big event aside, made me think less of it. It wasn’t until other kids were talking about it in lunch and in the halls that I started to realize it was a big deal.

When I got home my parents were talking about it and we watched the news together and learned as much as we could, like everyone else. When it first happened I just wrote it off as an accidental plane crash that hit an important building. Eventually I learned more and basically had a delayed reaction. Rather than getting upset at the time of, I was getting upset later than every one else.
