On September 11, 2001, I remember sitting in my elementary classroom of 30 kids. There was a loud scream in the hallway and everyone went silent. All the kids thought the school was going into lock down. But right when this happened the teacher pulled her cellphone off the desk while it was ringing and answered with a puzzled look. We all wondered what was going on still. She holds the phone down to her side with a scared, sad look on her face. Then she turns on the projector and we watched the whole thing happen as the second plane flew into the building. After witnessing the second plane the loud speaker came on over the school and it was the principle. He says, “Students of Leggee elementary we have just witnessed two commercial air crafts fly into the world trade center. This is a horrible thing to witness. So now let’s close our eyes and pray for all the life’s that were taken by this event and the family’s that had lost their loved ones.” We prayed for about 5 minutes. The whole school was dead silent. I’m pretty sure I heard a mouse outside trying to get into the building. That’s how quiet it was. After this, the class was different everyone sort of had the shock look on their face. The teacher then walked in front of the class and said if you need to call your parents you can. We will all take turns alphabetical order. She also stated please tell your parents that they should come pick you up and if they can’t we will have buses to take you home. With this I took the initiative and luckily my mom worked in the front office so me and my sister just waked down and she took us home. We had a quiet family dinner that night.
