My fiance and I started driving down the highway at 7am on 9/11. We were heading to the Cleveland Hospital to see my mom’s best friend. She was having emergency open heart surgery that day. As we were drivng the radio was interupted and the news started talking about how a plane had just struck the world trade center. At first we thought it was just a joke until people started to scream and panic in the backround. At this time we were close to Cleveland and the radio said Cleveland was going to be closed. We started to panic not knowing if we should continue or turn around. My mom called on the cell phone and said to try to come in back roads because main street was going to be closed. We finally reached the hospital just in time because after we entered they started to monitor who came and left. The feelings of utter saddness finally hit when we saw the sights on TV.Then we received a phone call from my mom’s friends daughter who works at the hospital in Washington DC, she said it was utter maddness and they were preparing for victims from the pentagon so she couldnt talk long. I was so thankful to be able to be with my family that day and sad that so many people had lost someone they loved at that same moment. All of the people involved on that tragic day will always be a hero in my heart. -Amanda
