I woke up 15 minutes late for work that day so I did not turn on the TV or check the news on the net like I normally did every morning. I have a 40 minute commute to my sales job and listen to the local sports radio show on my radio. At first I couldn’t figure out what the heck was going on….the sports radio dj’s did a commendable job in their commentary. At first I thought it was a joke. I am not certain why I didn’t change the station to find national news.
When they announced on the air that the 2nd plane just hit I remember tears rolling down my face, me screaming NO NO and hitting the dash board with my fist. When I got to work we all agreed that today was not a day to go out and sell. We stood outside and consoled each other. I called my wife who works second shift and after 30 rings she finally woke up and all I told her was “Turn on the TV….for God’s sake turn on the TV”. I remember seeing at least 15 planes circling the airport to clear for landing after the call went out for all air travel to land. I thought how scared those people up there must be.
