I was sitting at work, enjoying my very large cup of coffee and getting started with my daily activities. I was interrupted in the middle of a conversation by a co-worker that told me her husband called to let he know that a plane crashed into one of the Trade Center buildings…..To be honest, none of us really thought anything of it…..other than an accident…then we received another call that as second plane crashed, we began to panic……there was complete silence in the office, you see I work in a call center where everyone around me is taking calls, and at that very moment, you could hear a pin drop!!! We all stood up and just looked at each other with nothing to say!
The first thing I tried to do was log on to CNN.com …….it took about 10 minutes, but I finally got on… and that’s when I saw it…..the image of the second plane crashing into tower 2….words cannot describe it, I couldn’t even imagine seeing it in LIVE REALITY.
Then we learned the Pentagon was attacked. We were dumbfounded. There were no words to describe the expressions we had on our faces.
My heart goes out to those who lost loved ones.
My sister and brother-in-law are firefighters and my husband is a Police Officer. In the back of my mind I always knew that their jobs were dangerous, but I never really thought of it…..Until now. Although they were not involved on that tragic day, I have gained much more respect for what they do and make sure I tell them I love them every chance I get.
The men and women of ALL Police Forces and Fire Departments are true heroes and should be commended for the heroism as well as the millions of volunteers in NY.
