On September 11, 2001, I was 10 years old. I remember sitting in my class learning math when another teacher came in and told the class a plane had crashed into one of the wtc towers. My teacher immediately broke out in tears and went for her cell phone. All of the other 5th grade classes joined our class and we watched tv for the rest of the day. My teacher stayed on the phone with her husband, who was supposed to have a meeting in the trade center but canceled his trip when he was summoned for jury duty that he could not get out of. for all of the kids in the room we could not understand what was going on and when a classmate asked if the falling objects were people a teacher told us it was just chairs, papers, desk, and other debris. when the south tower fell the room went quiet there was nothing said everyone was in shock. we knew then everything was about to change. we knew nothing of war since we were born either during or right after the gulf war. we were all afraid of what war meant and i remember during lunch the principle came over the loud speaker and we had a moment of silence. after that day everything changed even for elementary school children in Louisiana
