I had just turned 11 in Amritsar, India. Me and my family were watching CNN like we always do. I remember saying , ” nothing ever happens on news “. Within 3 minutes, I had to bite back my words, as the news broke out that WTC had been hit. Coming from a well educated family, i knew this was not good. not good at all. i watched the planes cranes. I remember my mom crying as she watched the towers collapse. It was especially frightening because my mum had proverbial guts of steel. she worked in ER so she had seen tons of gore. but when she saw this she cried.
Later in the day, Indian Military rolled their tanks to the edge of the city fearing that there will be attacks on the holy city.
It was an event that ironically united all cultures in: grief.
R.I.P firefighters, people on planes, wtc, pentagon and everyone else who died near the crash sites that day.
