It was just another Tuesday morning. I arrived at my job at Federal Express around 7:45 AM (Central time) I started unloading a trailer. A co-worker of mine walked up to where I was working and said: “Something happened in New York. A plane hit the World Trade Center.” I really didn’t know what to say because it was so early and I really hadn’t woken up yet. Then the facility shut down and we were advised via our radios to meet in the conference room. When I got there the first tower was burning. They were saying that a jetliner had slammed into it. Then the 2nd plane hit. I was standing in a room with a lot of ROTC people who worked there at Federal Express part time. I’ll never forget that moment. People started saying “It’s on now” and stuff like that. As a veteran of Somalia myself I felt like re-enlisting immediately. I drove back to my hometown and there were a lot of people walking around and such. It seemed so different. A vastly different atmosphere compared to how it was when I left that morning. I went to my 2nd job at a department store and all we did was stand around and watch the TV’s in the electronics department. I will never forget this day as long as I live.
