I was about 7 years old on September 11th 2001. I remember finishing school, and waiting for my mum to pick me and my sister up. I remember all the parents were chatting and there was a really strange atmosphere in the air, I did not think anything of it though. I just remember seeing my eldest half-sister; whose father is from America with my mum and she looked upset. My mum just sort of said what happened, I think she said something along the lines of ‘The twin towers in America are on fire’ She said she could smell smoke which I thought was crazy, because we lived in a tiny village in South Wales. We walked home and I saw it on the TV, it was crazy.
It was the day after I remember most vividly, because at the start of the day in school my teacher waited for us to all be quiet, and we all were, no one was talking about things kids talk about. She looked so sad, and she asked us if anyone can tell her what happened yesterday. My class talked for a long time, we discussed what this means, we discussed how many people perished, and we also had to pray. It was a very sad day. I am somewhat grateful I was very young when it happened, as I still cannot process it when I see videos online. I can’t imagine how scary it must of been turning on the news and seeing it all unfold.
