Lived in NY on 9.11.01?: No
Knew someone who perished?: No

I was a college sophomore at the University of Pittsburgh, getting ready to take my Psychology exam when my professor informed the class that school was closed due to terrorist attacks on the WTC, the Pentagon, and another PA town. Afterwards, I called my dad, who worked in downtown Manhattan, and my sister, who was living in D.C. at the time. Not being able to reach my dad (but fortunately my sister), I went back to my dorm, naturally really worried. On my way back, the door to one of the students living on my floor was open and I saw her watching the news. I asked her if she knew anyone who might have been hurt in any of the attacks and she said no. We continued talking and, before I knew it, we had been talking for hours (I eventually reached my dad). To this day, she’s one of my closest friends. Although 9/11/01 will remain a day of infamy for a lot of people, for me, it is also the day I met a friend who remains a bright spot in my life. Light amidst darkness..that day taught me to always look for that.
