I was in first grade in 2001. I had been switched classrooms and was not in a room near the backyard. The day was pretty normal until the third plane hit the pentagon. We lived so close to the pentagon, I rememver an alarm rang and we had to close the entire school. They pulled out groups of 10 kids to go get lunch and back. The whole school went silent. It wasn’t until four in the afternoon that they let us go.
Some images are so vivid in my mind. Like when I got home and walked into the kitchen, my brother and sister were already home sitting in front of the TV. Watching the news. Images of the towers flashed before me and a particular one I still remember. A women in a white top jumped. Her body falling towards the ground.
My dad worked a block away from the pentagon. It was hours of not knowing anything of him. The desperation of my mother because we didn’t know if he was ok or if there were going to be any more attacks.
16 years later I still can’t get certain images out of my mind.
