On 9/11/01 I was a brand new 24 year old Daddy! My son was born 8/16/01 and my wife and I were just trying to figure out this parenting thing. My wife and I were still in college. That morning I woke up to get ready to get to class and I did what I always do, turn on the TV and pop on Sports Center while I get dressed. When the TV came on there were no highlights of the events the night before, only an image of 2 buildings and one was smoking. I remember thinking “what the hell is wrong with ESPN?”. After flipping through some channels I realized everyone was reporting on one of the towers that was on fire. I finished getting dressed, gave my wife and son a kiss goodbye and headed to class. I asked my wife to keep me posted on what happened. I stopped at the corner store for some gas and that’s when my wife called me. Second plane just hit and there was real fear in her voice. I jumped in my car headed home. I gave my wife a kiss held my son and we spent the day in horror watching the events unfold on TV. I will never forget that day. I remember small details so clearly. I talk to my son about it every year on 9/11. I tell him that he was just a baby when this happened. How there was a sense of chaos on TV and even in the streets thousands of miles away. I tell him how his mom and dad were just 2 scared kids trying to get this adult thing figured out when this happened. Then I give him a hug and appreciate every minute I have had with my family since then. To all those that died that day I pray they are at peace. To those that lost someone that day, my prayers go out to you and yours.
