Here’s something I wrote 2 days after September 11th. Hope you enjoy it…

september falling

There’s fire reaching to the sky
the dust stings my blackened skin
the smoke billows into my eyes
night comes in like a heartless train

I can’t see my city’s welcome arms
and I realize before day ends
between the raised alarms
falling night is my holy friend

Night
please hide the burning sky
and cover our painful course
just blanket us inside
your merciful remorse.
Keep daybreak far from this
betray your only calling
let you and I keep the secrets
of September falling

This fall slowly whispers
on winter’s coming shoulder
I beg you, she whispers
don’t make my nights colder

Our children softly weeping
their questions, growing bolder
while none can dream of sleeping
please, don’t make our nights colder

Sweet Autumn
Please rain the burning sky
and wash our painful course
just bathe our ashy cries
in your merciful remorse.
Keep winter far from this
betray your only calling
let you and I keep the secrets
of September falling.
