I was a 4th grade student in Chicago in the middle of a grammar lesson. Suddenly an announcement was made over our PA system, and the words of that announcement elude me to this day, but I remember that my teacher turned on the television and my class saw the CNN report. My school was about a 10 minute drive from downtown Chicago and, considering the course of events that happened that morning, we were convinced that the Sears Tower would follow suit. My teacher screamed that her husband worked in the Sears Tower and rushed out of the classroom, presumably to call him. Unable to wrap my brain around what was happening to the world, I remember looking up at the sky for the rest of the day and hoping that my teacher’s husband would be alright.
