I was 11 years old and in the 6th grade. I was late for school that day. My dad was already gone for work, and my mom and I were up getting ready for her to take me to school. We usually had the TV on in the morning, and I walked by it in the living room and it was on the news and my mom was watching it and I could tell she was upset. I saw the smoke from the building and asked her what was wrong? She was saying “Oh my God, a plane hit the World Trade Center.” And I said “So?” At the time I had heard of the World Trade Center but didn’t really “know” what it was or understand the severity of the situation. I didn’t know what was going to happen, that so many people would die. She said “It must have been an accident.” Then we saw when the second plane hit and she was saying “Oh my God, oh my God, it’s not an accident” and I could tell she was scared. I was confused about the situation. After that she drove me to school and everyone talked about it the whole day. I don’t remember if we watched the news at school. I do remember a few kid’s parents took them out early. I don’t remember when I heard about the Pentagon. Only in the next few days did I really understand the impact…
RIP all 9/11 victims and God bless all firefighters and policemen.
