I’m a Canuck living in Sydney Australia. On that terrible day, our “Sept 11” was almost over. It was 10:30pm Sydney time and I was watching the late night news and talking to my girlfirend on the phone. Suddenly, the news reporter said, “Breaking news, a plane has flown into New York’s World Trade Centre”. I cut my conversation with my girl and told her to turn on the TV. My girlfriend (being born and bred in Australia) didn’t understand how severe this was. And this is what annoys me about people who were born and live outside of North America. They can’t truly understand the impact it had on not just USA, but the whole North American continent. Yes, the world supported USA, but at the same time, did they feel the pain that they did? Apart from their neighbours, Canadians, NO. I cried that night knowing that so many lives were lost and prayed for the victims and their families. What also annoyed me was that none of the TV networks in Australia bothered to keep running the news for the night to give updates and discuss the impact it had on the world. they only started again during breakfast TV. I had to change to cable (Foxtel here) and watch CNN all night to keep with teh latest info. It was times like these I wished I was closer to home and be around those who understood the pain of what just happened.
