I am a 54yr old woman that I call an Ole Hippie. On September 11th, 2001 I was sitting at my desk at Baptist Memorial Hospital when I was told of the attach on our country in New York City with the twin towers, after I made sure my family members were alright I still had to do my job, you see I am a financial counselor for my hospital I have to do daily rounds for the patients that have no insurance to pay their bills and I must troubleshoot to find ways to assist in the payment planning. I was walking up and down the 5 stories watching the faces of persons worried and glued to television sets in patient rooms. Oh the errie feelings of the morning. When I got back to my desk I was introduced to a person that was a friend of a Dr from Oxford, as we discussed the morning along with payment planning for a Dr’s billing statement this lady was concerned about the doctor himself and stated that he was to be on Flight 93, but she could not reach his cell phone.

I got the cell phone number from her and as we called the cellular phone all I could get was the voice mail of the doctor. I then with her help called family members for her to see IF they had heard if the doctor was on Flight 93, Finally after 45 minutes of calls and prayers due to the woman histerical crys I finally reached a sister of the doctor for her and recieved news that she had heard from him and that he had deceided NOT to take the Flight 93 and was currently driving back to Oxford Mississippi. Oh the relief she and I had and the thankful way we both felt that this man for some reason decided NOT to get on Flight 93 was alive when he would have been dead for sure.

I was proud that I could put as much effort to assist one person at least to ease her mind for the day due to I had the phone lines and the calmness and the faith in my God to help her during such a sad day as September 11th 2001. I saw that even me, a person in Mississippi many miles from the twin towers and Flight 93, that I could be of assistance to my fellow man, and to know one doctor could be alive to carry on helping others to this day. AMEN
