I was driving a forklift on my part-time job as a mechanic at a truck repair facility in Springfield, MA. The parts man Joe came up to me and said they just flew 2 airliners into the World Trade Center and flattened the Pentagon. I thought he was joking since earlier I had shared with him that today was the 23rd anniversary of my joining the Air Force. Thats right I went into the Air Force on 11 Sept 1978. When Joe said he wasn’t kidding I grew worried and went inside to find all work had stopped and everyone listening to the radio reports. I was numb as the radio newscaster reported the first tower was falling. Myself and the shop foreman were the only military reservists in the shop. The foreman is an Army reservist and myself Air Force reservist. I called the base at once and was told to report at 3pm that day. We were activated (put on active duty) on october 18th 2001 and will be deactivated very soon. I was sent overseas (Europe) for 3 months from Feb to the end of June. That day affected every single American, some more and some less………………………. we will never forget ……. Sgt Steve
