It started off a beautiful day, September 11th 2001. After seeing the hole of WTC 1 from my midtown office bldg, myself and 2 colleagues rushed to the downtown subway in hopes of getting the Staten Island Ferry. Apparently at the Brooklyn Bridge station, someone had pulled the emergency brake – thank god for that! We exited by city hall area and were unaware that WTC 2 had just collapsed. There was dust everywhere and we were told by police to go north quickly. We made it to the Manhattan bridge and were 1/2 across it when we witnessed the 2nd tower (WTC 1) collapse. We were all shocked and speechless and then we started walking faster across the bridge. We did not know what might be hit next and being in the middle of this bridge was not the best place. It was such a relief to get to the Brooklyn side! The sight and sound of that tower collapsing will never leave me and my thoughts and prayers go out to those lost and their families. May we stay strong and move forward and while we are changed forever, may we not back down from these cowards!
God bless.
